Our cup ties have been exciting and close games so far, and today was no exception. The Flyers faced an Eastwood side unbeaten this season, and gave a strong performance of good football. The first half saw the teams closely matched. Eastwood's shots on the post were matched with Flyers hitting the crossbar. Good attacking play by both sides, with The Flyers using the width of the pitch well and making some troublesome attacks. The half ended 0-0. In the second half, The Flyers took advantage of the downhill and attacked positively, being on top for the first 20 minutes. Two goals, both from great team play and passing - the first from Emily, the second from Georgia - saw The Flyers make a deserved lead. Tiring in the last 10 minutes, Eastwood capitalised with two strong attacks and two good goals - leaving the tie open at 2-2 at full time.
A third goal to Eastwood in extra time sealed the tie, which was a fantastic show of skillful and spirited football by both sides. All credit to Eastwood for fighting back, and great credit to The Flyers for a really excellent performance and for being dignified in loss despite the disappointment of the result.
I was very proud of all the team today, and each team member should be very proud of their performance on the field - all players gave 100%, the team played well together, and demonstrated some really good football. Well done Flyers!
