Match report - Sunday 15 March 2009
Another away match pitched us against Priory Celtic who we last played in freezing conditions. We were happy to see the sun peeking through as opposed to the freezing rain of last week !
The first half started with us attacking well with Ethan and Benni leading the way. We passed the ball well and created a couple of chances which were saved by the Priory goalkeeper, before a shot from Ethan went in via a Priory player. It was not all one way though, and a move from Priory led to an equaliser. We knuckled down and Fin moved forward, as did Jack and James. A good move led to the combination of Benni and Fin striking the ball and a goal - to be given to Benni. Our defenders were not let off the hook and they had to keep running back and tackling. There was good play from Matthew, Oscar and Oliver who all defended well and Chris made a couple of good saves. However, they continued to be tested and Chris could not stop the Priory team equalising yet again. A move forward from us led to a third goal which was scored by Fin.
After half time we were put under pressure from Priory and Chris had to make some saves. Our rolling substitutions meant players changed positions and a move down the right ended with a chip from the right side of the box from Ethan going in the back of the net. (Thank you April !) 2-4 ! It was not the end though and Priory continued to go forward and scored twice to make the score 4-4. We did not give up and tried to press forward with Benni and Ethan each coming very close. A tense end to the match ensued with both sides still going forward in an attempt to snatch the winner. In the end the result was 4-4 and both teams had done very well. A good and entertaining match to watch lads !
Our team today was : Chris, Matthew - captain -, Oliver, Oscar, Fin, Jack, James, Ethan and Benni.
